| Hospital Gains "Blue Distinction" for Knee and Hip Replacement - Thursday, April 15, 2010
The Washington Hospital Has Been Designated as a
Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip ReplacementSM
Washington, PA - Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Pittsburgh, PAhas designated The Washington Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Kneeand Hip Replacement. Blue Distinction Centers for Knee and Hip Replacement are part of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association’s expansion of its Blue Distinction® designation.
“We are honored to receive this distinction from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Our patients, physicians, staff and community now have further evidence that The Washington Hospital’s clinical quality is at an exceptional level,” said Telford W. Thomas, president and CEO of The Washington Hospital.

The Washington Hospital, one of the region's outstanding community hospitals, serves Washington, Greene and southern Allegheny counties. A teaching hospital with a family practice residency program, nursing school and allied health schools, it is well known for its cardiac, cancer and women's health services. Chartered in 1897, along with its School of Nursing, The Washington Hospital is centrally located on Wilson Avenue in Washington and is the largest employer in the County.
The Hospital, which also has numerous satellite locations, provides the community with a full range of services-- inpatient care, outpatient treatment and hospice services, prevention and wellness programs and education-- all designed to meet the healthcare needs of our region.
